According to Mohn Media boss Dirk Kemmerer, the decision for the high-performance Heidelberg printing machine, designed for 24/7 operation, was above all due to its process management, automation, and data management capabilities, the machine's benchmark leadership and its autonomous production sequence.
"The Speedmaster XL 106 offers the highest degree of automation on the market. With its innovative "push-to-stop" operating concept, Heidelberg has fully automated the order changeover process – after the last good sheet of the running order, the machine starts to produce the good sheets of the next order fully automatically," says Mohn Media's Head of Production and Technology Roland Witte.
"We have really high expectations of the Speedmaster XL 106 here at Mohn Media, as the printing markets we are active in change at a rapid pace. In future, only those that manage to adapt to the market challenges and customer requirements, such as smaller print runs, shorter delivery times or more intricate orders, extremely fast will be successful. Increasing productivity becomes essential for all of us," says Kemmerer about the future-proofing investment.
However, a machine of the same time with nine colours has also been installed at the Bertelsmann Printing Group site of Vogel Druck in Höchberg near Würzburg. "Our aim is to continuously ramp up our productivity over the next five years in order to thereby increase the efficiency of the entire plant," explains Bertelsmann Printing Group (BPG) COO Dr Niklas Darijtschuk.
